Hillary Rodham Clinton announces a run for the presidency and becomes the twelfth woman in history to do so - January 20, 2007 - Hillary Rodham Clinton announced her official run for the presidency.  Although she is the first woman to lead in the presidential polls, she is not the first woman to run for the office.  Victoria Woodhull ran for president in 1872, even before women had the right to vote.  Carol Moseley Braun was the most recent woman to run for president in 2004.
