UK political party encourages local officials to recruit more women and minority candidates - September 18, 2006 - The Liberal Democratic party in the UK wants to reach more voters by recruiting more women and minority candidates. To accomplish this, the party set up a £200,000 fund to support women and ethnic minority candidates. The Liberal Democrat president Simon Hughes said this was not about "political correctness" but "political engagement".
