Women Who Are Chief Justices on a State Supreme Court Currently, 31% of the justices on the states' highest courts are women. And, women are the Chief Justice in 18 states. Of the 18 women who are Chief Justices, one is African-American: Peggy A. Quince.
Note: In Texas, there is both a Supreme Court, for non-criminal cases, and a Court of Criminal Appeals. Sharon Keller is the Presiding Judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
